Anthony Bennett nearing buyout with Minnesota

Power forward Anthony Bennet is nearing a buyout with the Timberwolves, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Bennett was a surprise first overall pick for the Cleveland Cavaliers after one season at UNLV where he averaged 16.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Bennett’s career got off to a poor start with a shoulder injury caused him to be sidelined for four months following the completion of the college season. He played only 52 games in his lone year in Cleveland before being traded to Minnesota as part of the Kevin Love for Andrew Wiggins trade last summer.

Bennett never found his spot in a Minnesota front court crowded with young talent like Gorgui Dieng, Nikola Pekovic and Adreian Payne. He averaged only 5.2 points and 3.8 rebounds for Minnesota in 57 games last season.

Bennett, still just 22 years old, would become a free agent if he clears waivers.
