Deron Williams to come off Nets’ bench

Point guard Deron Williams, who’s missed the Brooklyn Nets’ last two games with a calf strain, will play Friday against the Boston Celtics.

But like center Brook Lopez, he’ll be coming off the bench.

So if you’re scoring at home, that’s about $36 million in salary this season coming off the pine.

The Brooklyn Nets have the highest-paid trio in basketball. Two-thirds of that trio will be coming off the bench when Deron Williams returns to action.

That’s expected to happen Friday, with Williams being considered likely to return from his strained right calf against the Boston Celtics. Williams has missed the last two games, with Jarrett Jack taking over the lead guard duties in the starting lineup.

Jack will continue to start Friday regardless of Williams’ status, as head coach Lionel Hollins said Wednesday that Williams probably won’t go right back into the starting lineup. Williams came off the bench six times last season, the first time had had done so since his 2005-06 rookie season, so this is unfamiliar but not completely foreign territory.
