Duke Gets Payback, Easy Win over Fighting Irish

The Duke basketball team showed why it’s still a strong contender to cut down the nets this season with a dominant 90-60 victory over Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Duke moved to 20-3 & 7-3 in the ACC, while Notre Dame fell to 21-4 & 9-3 in the ACC.

The Fighting Irish jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead to start the game, but it was all Duke after that, as the Blue Devils shot 81% from the field in the first half to take a 50-24 lead into the intermission.

Despite Jahlil Okafor playing limited first half minutes because of early foul trouble, Duke got great contributions off the bench and fantastic balance throughout the game.

Between Matt Jones stepping up with 15 first half points (he finished with a career high 17), Justise Winslow continuing his great play with another double double (19 points & 11 rebounds), and even some quality minutes from Grayson Allen, everything was clicking for the Blue Devils in the 30-point win.

With the win, Duke now has four victories over teams ranked in the Top 10, giving the Blue Devils a resume that’s as impressive as any team in the country.

And with Justise Winslow regaining the form that made him one of the most impressive freshmen in the country to begin the season, along with Matt Jones really emerging after the dismissal of Rasheed Sulaimon, Duke appears to be clicking as we head toward the most important part of the season.

Less than two weeks ago, Duke fell apart down the stretch on the road against Notre Dame with missed free throws and an inability to make stops on defense. 24 hours later, Rasheed Sulaimon was kicked off the team and many people were wondering if the season was quickly spiraling in the wrong direction.

Now, the Blue Devils have won three straight, including victories over two Top 10 teams, and have re-established themselves as one of the most dangerous teams in college basketball.

When this team plays like it did today, good luck figuring out ways to stop them.
