Former Lakers security guard sentenced for stealing championship rings

A former Lakers security guard Mejía Eddie Monterroso, 23, stole the three rings as well as hundreds of dollars worth of gift certificates while he worked as a night watchman for the team from October to December last year. The police estimate the rings, which were from the teams’ 2009 and 2010 championships, are worth nearly $20,000.

The rings were later found in Monterroso’s home, but he had used and sold the majority of the gift cards by the time the police apprehended him.

He will serve 180 days in jail and three years probation after pleading no contest to charges stemming from the theft of three of the teams’ championship rings.
