NBA roundup: Kobe Recovering; Siva Signs; Blazers Sign Guard

Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant said he is way ahead of schedule in recovering from a ruptured Achilles’ tendon.
The scheduled time timetable for recovery is typically six to nine months. Bryant, who was injured in April against the Golden State Warriors, suggested that he could be ready in time for training camp in September.
“The surgical procedure was different … and because of that the recovery has been different,” Bryant said while recently on tour in China, according to “The normal timetable for recovery from an Achilles, we’ve shattered that.
“Three-and-a-half months I can already walk just fine, I’m lifting weights with the Achilles just fine and that’s different. So we don’t know what that timetable is going to be. It’s kind of new territory for us all.”
—The NBA announced that Portland Trail Blazers guard Terrel Harris has been suspended for the first five games of the season for violating the terms of the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program.
Harris averaged 0.8 points, 0.5 assists and 1.3 rebounds in 6.9 minutes per game last season.
—The Detroit Pistons announced they signed second-round draft pick Peyton Siva to a contract.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Silva averaged 10.0 points and 5.7 assists as a senior last season for NCAA champion Louisville.
