Victor Oladipo Sprains MCL in Right Knee

Following the sprained MCL that Channing Frye has in his left knee, Orlando Magic guard Victor Oladipo on Friday night ended up spraining the MCL in his right knee during the squad’s scrimmage. Vic finished the session before noticing any discomfort. Based on Monday’s interviews with Oladipo and Coach Jacque Vaughn, there is no timetable yet for Victor’s return. It apparently happened on a play at the rim. Victor initially thought he tweaked his ankle, but soon learned it was his knee. ‘Dipo had an MRI on Saturday with no further injury concerns aside from the MCL sprain. As always, the Indiana Hoosier seemed beyond optimistic and I wouldn’t rule him out from being available by the first regular season game. Vic says it’s first time in his playing career he’s had any leg injury.

Oladipo says he’s taking it day-by-day, but in the interview seemed to accept that he won’t be playing in the preseason. The 22-year-old is obviously out for the Magic’s first preseason game in Miami on Tuesday against the Heat, but he will be traveling with the team. Along with Willie Green hyper-extending his knee on Saturday and being unavailable for the Heat game, this opens up the door for Elfrid Payton and Evan Fournier to possibly start in the backcourt with veterans Luke Ridnour andBen Gordon as well as rookie Devyn Marble looking at extra time.
